Before we get on to the large number of sewage pollution incidents around the coast of Devon and Cornwall at the beginning of December, we have an announcement to make.
The West Devon Free Press is proud to present the early results from our new “Combined Sewer Overflow Monitor” project. We are now able to store details of every Combined Sewer Overflow activation. The next stage of the project is to make that much more detailed information available to our readers on a map.
Getting back to the current sorry state of sewage pollution around the South West Peninsula, the three fully fledged “Advice against bathing” warnings from the Environment Agency on November 29th are still in place this afternoon:

What is more there is an ongoing sewage “spill” at the nearby surfing beach at Widemouth Bay:
This morning there’s yet another Environment Agency “Advice against bathing” warning in place, this time due to sewage pollution at Mawgan Porth on the north coast of Cornwall:
To add insult to injury, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind and rain across Devon and Cornwall, starting on Friday afternoon and lasting until Sunday morning:
