After several dry days a band of rain is once again crossing South West England. Needless to say there are already several sewage pollution warnings on this morning’s WaterFit Live map from South West Water:


Before we dive into the details of those, yesterday afternoon the Environment Agency issued an “Advice against bathing” warning due to sewage pollution at Westward Ho!

On the south coast of Cornwall there are already ongoing CSO activations at Falmouth, Penzance and Polurrian Cove near Mullion:



This evening the Environment Agency warning for Westward Ho! has been lifted. However more beaches in Kernow have been affected by sewage pollution. The “spill” at Falmouth continues, and has been joined by ongoing CSO activations at Sennen Cove, Fowey and East Looe:




This afternoon there are a few more yellow warnings on the WaterFit Live map:

The CSOs at Sennen Cove and Falmouth have been operating continuously since yesterday morning, and have been joined by an ongoing “spill” at Meadfoot Beach in Torbay:



There have also been multi-hour CSO monitor activations at Portreath, Polurrian Cove and Penzance earlier in the day, plus an ongoing “spill” at Fowey that started this evening.




The rain has returned today, and this evening a band of heavy rain is crossing the South West Peninsula. Hence there are already plenty of yellow warnings of potential sewage pollution on South West Water’s WaterFit Live map:


Starting with a some locations that were suffering from pollution a few days ago, there are ongoing sewage “spills” at Portreath on the north coast and Fowey on the south coast of Cornwall, together with Pentewan and Plymouth:

This evening the yellow sewage pollution warnings have spread all along the north coasts of both Devon and Cornwall:

Yesterday’s north coast CSO activations have disappeared from the WaterFit Live overview map this morning. However a more serious incident has occurred on the coast of South East Cornwall.
Following a multi-hour “spill” into the East Looe River from the Lodgehill sewage treatment works at Liskeard, the Environment Agency has issued an “Advice against bathing” warning due to sewage pollution affecting East Looe beach:
