October Sewage Pollution in South West England

After a few days of warm, sunny weather the Met Office in Exeter issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain last night:

The heavens duly opened across South West England overnight. Here’s the Met Office’s rain radar map from 11:30 PM last night:

It won’t come as a big surprise to our regular readers that this morning South West Water’s WaterFit Live map looks like this:

Our local big beach break at Widemouth Bay is one of many beaches around the coast of Devon and Cornwall affected by sewage pollution today. The Madeira Drive combined sewer overflow was active for over 6 hours last night:
